Week 5 GRAPHIC DESIGN

Day 1

To begin the week in Graphic Design we started with identifying the six main disciplines within Graphic Design. We did this in groups and as a class ended up with loads of different disciplines.

Some examples of this was:
Typography
Advertising: Visual Merchandising, Posters, Banners, Leaflets/Flyers, Billboards and Bustops.
Editorial: Magazines, Websites, Books.
Marketing
Signs
Packaging
Publishing
Product Design
Print Making
Drawing
Photography
Animation
Illustration
Logos: Branding - Corporate Identity.

We also talked a lot about how certain companies have a recognised/established brand identity.
Such as Apple, Mc Donalds and Coco Cola, Disney, Google and Nike etc etc.

Which i've also found really interesting how some brands are just known all over the world that they don't even need their brand name displayed on advertisements, just a certain font, colour or logo is recognisable to a world-wide audience. Because even people who may not be consumers of apple products are familiar with the logo. It makes me think of cultural homogenisation, how a large amount of people from all over the globe can go sit in a Starbucks, drink a can of coco cola then go home and go on facebook. When thinking about it like that it's quite astonishing really.
