Graphics

Alan Fletcher

Alan Fletcher was a British Graphic Designer. He died in 2006 and In his obituary, he was described by The Daily Telegraph as "the most highly regarded graphic designer of his generation, and probably one of the most prolific".
One of his designs that is still in place is his 1989 V&A logo for Victoria and Albert Museum. (Below)
A really simple yet extremely effect design. It looks really sophisticated with it's simple black and serif font. Plus the really clever use of only part of the A visible keeps the logo tight together and the tip of the & sign works very cleverly as the missing part of the A.

It is clear when researching Alan Fletcher that design was really his life. These personal works of collages are really nice to see, the one above I really like you can look at it as a whole, as the word "Collage" but when you look at each section separately you begin to see the entire piece in a different way. The AGE being of particular prominence in my opinion.

The above is wallpaper magazines limited edition Fletchers design.  Interestingly when Fletcher did the design he made it speak for itself by having the title incorporated in the entire design, saying "If you're gonna do it, you may as well bloody do it" So wallpaper with Fletchers understanding Tony Chambers the creative director was still going to reduce the image and accommodate the original logo "but under the sad circumstances we decided 'to bloody well do it'.":- Tony Chambers.
